WordPress - we host and develop WordPress sites - the most popular of the Content Management Systems
WordPress is a commonly used system of programs written in mostly PHP to
serve up web pages. It's what is referred to as a Content Management
System. That's a fancy way of saying that the content in one's website
can be managed. Most importantly, it can be managed by YOU.
As it happens, WordPress appears to be the most popular CMS (Content
Management System) software powering websites on the Internet right now.
As with everything in life, there are pros and cons when it comes to
using WordPress. Here are some - and this list is by no means
exhaustive.
Pros of Using WordPress
If you are already adept at WordPress - or similar content management
systems - and a pretty computer savvy individual - then you will be all
set with a WordPress website.
Updates to your WordPress website can be made whenever you choose - all
you need is to have access to the Internet and a web browser (like
Firefox or Internet Explorer or Chrome or Safari to name a few).
There are no other expensive software packages you need to buy to use
WordPress, unless you actually want to develop WordPress themes and
plugins and websites yourself.
Cons of using WordPress
If you don't know how to, you do have to learn how to use WordPress. We
don't tell people it's necessarily simple and natural to use, because in
our experience dealing with many people who have moved in this
direction, it isn't. While making simple changes here and there is very
easy and efficient, making large scale changes and altering themes and
templates can be a daunting task for the inexperienced.
You have to make the time to make your updates. If you are so busy now
(doing your job which does not include web developer) that your days fly
by, then the odds are that you probably don't have time to become more
focused on learning something new just to upkeep your WordPress website.
Just like with nearly all software, security updates are a fairly
constant occurrence with WordPress and its plugins and its themes.
WordPress is open source software - meaning the software that WordPress
is comprised of is essentially free to use - but the ramifications of
not keeping up with security updates in a WordPress website is not free
to fix.
Finally, if you blow up the WordPress site because you did not take the
time to back everything up prior to making changes to your website, it
might cost a great deal to have a website developer recover or rebuild
your WordPress site.
Always remember that your WordPress website will be an online
reflection of you and your business. You need to look good in this
regard. Regardless of how small or large your business is, obviously if
you aren't on the web, there is no measure of your potentially lost
business opportunities. The five navigation boxes above essentially sum
it all up. Each actually plays an important part in your online success.
We would love the opportunity to explain that in detail. All can be
accomplished with a WordPress site or any website we can construct for
you for that matter.
We at CharlesWorks currently handle an incredibly diverse set of
clients. Take a few minutes to view our
portfolio here to see but a small sample of the range of styles of
websites and services we can provide.
At CharlesWorks, we want to see everybody be online with an affordable
website that is:
-
Easy for visitors to navigate
-
Able to be found by the major search
engines
-
Professional in representing your
business
Why deal with CharlesWorks? When thinking about who you want to
deal with concerning your web presence, it's important to think about
whether you can figure out who you will actually interface with at a
company. At their website, is it impossible to find a name of who to
deal with? That is a signal right there that they do not want to be
known.
Look up at the top of this page. We are real people serving real people.
We want to help. We don't hide behind an anonymous webpage trying to get
you to do business with people who don't want you to know who they are.
Know that even of you choose a WordPress website, you can still hire us
to help you from start to finish, beginning with domain name
registration, thru the hosting, email, and design if necessary.
We are proud that we do most of our business through referrals.
That speaks volumes. We take what we jokingly refer to as a novel
approach in today's marketplace: we always try to get back to you. If
you call and do have to leave a message, we try to get back to you that
same day if possible. We are old fashioned in the sense of believing in
providing the highest level of service possible to our web clients.
If you don't know where to start, call CharlesWorks at 603-924-9867
and we can get you started right away with a WordPress website!
